COGTA PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE OVERSIGHT VISITS UTHUKELA DISTRICT

The KZN CoGTA Portfolio Committee members led by Honourable Zinhle Cele held a meeting with Uthukela District Municipality today and also conducted oversight visit to three production boreholes being implemented by CoGTA around the District.

The visit was part of the 2021/22 annual oversight plan priorities of the Committee which is to monitor the implementation of Uthukela District Municipality accelerated water programme, implementation of yellow plant programme and rehabilitation of CSCs programs.

The main objective of the programme was to conduct oversight visit of water projects and to also assess the progress and implementation of the yellow plant programme to alleviate water shortages facing the district and to provide sustainable and effective water supply to the communities facing water backlogs.

Chairperson of CoGTA Portfolio Committee Ms Zinhle Cele gave the purpose of the day and said they were here to assess the progress of water projects and to check if the municipality was using its funds accordingly. They also planned to visit the project implementated by the department.

Uthukela District Mayor INkosi Shabalala appreciated the visit from the KZN Legislature and CoGTA. "As the new Council thus with the visit from KZN Legislature and CoGTA we now have a clear picture of what needs to be done going-forward in order to ensure excellent service delivery to communities of Uthukela District", said the Mayor.

PMU Manager Mr Zikalala gave a presentation on all 52 boreholes funded by COGTA. After the briefing, the stakeholders conducted production boreholes oversight visits in Roosboom, Chivley and Loskop . All three boreholes visited were functional and operational. However, there were minor challenges encountered but Ms Zinhle Cele vowed to intervene in order to ensure that these challenges are resolved as quick as possible.
