The UThukela District has embarked on the 2022/2023 IDP need analysis and public consultation roadshows. This comes as the District Mayor Cllr Inkosi NB Shabalala who was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Cllr MH Shange, Chairperson for Infrastructure Portfolio Cllr MM Khoza, Traditional Leaders Inkosi Kunene, Inkosi Nxumalo, Councillors and Administration team kick-started a very successful public consultation today at Ekuvukeni community hall under Alfred Duma Local Municipality.

The Honourable Mayor of Uthukela District, Cllr Inkosi NB Shabalala, accompanied by EXCO Members Cllr M Khoza, Cllr N Mchunu, Alfred Duma Cllr Warasally and the Manager Office of the Mayor Mr SO Mnguni had a meet-and-greet engagement with Uthukela District SAPS today at the Department of Public Works offices in Ladysmith.

As the schools open their doors for a new academic year, the KZN Legislature deployed its members to various parts of the Province to ensure the new school year starts without any glitches and also to observe the state of readiness. Today they visited two schools in Alfred Duma municipality as part of annual monitoring programme. The first stop was at Harvest HS. Members of the Legislature led by Honourable TV Xulu , Uthukela District Deputy Mayor Cllr MH Shange, Education department and other critical stakeholders were part of the event.

Stakeholders meeting aimed to give briefings on the state of disaster where most parts of the Alfred Duma municipality was affected by the flash floods. The briefing was held at the UThukela District Health Department Boardroom today. MEC for CoGTA Mr Sipho Hlomuka, UThukela District Mayor Inkosi NB Shabalala, Alfred Duma Mayor Cllr ZJ Sibisi, Chaiperson for District House of Traditional Leaders Inkosi Sithole including senior management from Uthukela Mr MM Sithole, Alfred Duma Mrs SS Ngiba, Mr Abed Karrim from Al Imdaad Foundation and various organizations took part in the programme.

The premises of Uthukela District Municipality are currently inaccessible due to high levels of water that have flooded our ground level offices. Our Disaster Management Services are responding to call-outs. Action taken includes pumping water out of affected homes, evacuation and providing sandbags.

The KZN CoGTA Portfolio Committee members led by Honourable Zinhle Cele held a meeting with Uthukela District Municipality today and also conducted oversight visit to three production boreholes being implemented by CoGTA around the District.

At long last, the UThukela District Municipality finally inaugurated its council during the ceremony that was held today in Ladysmith Sport Complex. Having to move on with day-to-day proceedings in light of challenges presented by COVID-19 pandemic which adds immense pressure to the community at large, the event went on smoothly. Selflessness of the same has afforded everyone an opportunity to have leadership of their choice. It is through this juncture that the long awaited process of inauguration that will hopefully bear the results of uninterrupted service delivery to the people prevails.

ANOTHER WATER PLANT HAS BEEN TARGETED BY VANDALISM
Another break-in has been reported in one of our plants in Bergville area under Okhahlamba local municipality. This time around it is the Dukuza-Mnweni package plant that was broken into a few days ago where cables and electric panels were removed as well as extension and grinders stolen. This is the third burglary to take place in a space of few weeks after two other plants in Bhekuzulu and Loskop areas under Inkosi Langalibalele municipality were broken into and vandalized.

A delegation from the KZN Legislature visited Okhahlamba municipality to monitor the functionality of War Rooms in Ngoba and Zwelisha areas. It was led by the MEC for EDTEA in her capacity as the Uthukela District Champion Ms Nomsa Dube-Ncube , Uthukela District Mayor Cllr AS Mazibuko, Deputy Mayor Cllr NW Mchunu, Speaker PG Strydom, Inkosi Hlongwane, Ward Cllr Msimanga, Sector Departments and officials.

Uthukela District Municipality in partnership with Gift of the Givers handed complete sanitation facilities and sanitary packs to Nsikayezwe High School in Ngedlengedleni area under Alfred Duma Local Municipality.
