12 October 2020

This morning Uthukela District Mayor Cllr AS Mazibuko, Deputy Mayor Cllr NW Mchunu and officials visited Dr Joseph High School to hand over more than 50 sanitary packs to learners as social relief intervention.

The initiative ensures that no young girl loses a single day of school as a result of being ashamed to attend. The programme also aims to assist to keep a girl child in school as well as to restore a girl child's dignity and afford them an opportunity to be active at school.

Mayor Mazibuko said he learnt a lot from this school as he is the product of the school before it was renamed from Klip River Secondary to Dr Joseph Shabalala High School in honour of the late leader of world renowned Isicathamiya group. He further told the learners that he was also a Learners Representatives Committee (LRC) member and they were encouraging learners to excel in school.

Children need us as their hope to lead them to the right direction, and our main focus is to prioritise education. Uthukela District schools are high priority of the municipality which emphasizes education as being the primary answer to a better future, said the Mayor. The Principal appreciated the gesture from the municipality.
