UTHUKELA DISTRICT TAKES 2018/19 DRAFT BUDGET TO THE PEOPLE
UThukela District Municipality under the leadership of the Mayor Cllr AS Mazibuko reached out to the communities on the Draft IDP Budget 2018/19 through a series of public meetings that commenced from the 10th to the 13th of April 2018 across all three local municipalities. Two roadshows were conducted in each municipality per day respectively.

PUBLIC CONSULTATION MEETINGS TO DO NEEDS ANALYSIS
UThukela District Municipality has embarked on the IDP 2018/19 public consultation meetings that were held over a five-day period from the 12th to the 16th of February 2018 in Alfred Duma, Inkosi Langalibalele and Okhahlamba local municipalities. The purpose of these consultations was to do community needs analysis so that by the time the municipality prepares the budget it will then factor in all those needs identified by the communities for the five year term of Council.

UTHUKELA INTRODUCES A CONTRACTOR TO INSTALL BULK WATER PIPES
The UThukela District Municipality EXCO Member and Chairperson for the Water & Technical Services Portfolio committee Cllr MV Khumalo accompanied by uThukela District Chief Whip Cllr S Dlungwane and Inkosi Langalibalele councillors introduced the contractors to install bulk water pipes in Ward 3 areas of Amangwe and Bhekuzulu outside Estcourt. This was done in order to complete the work of the initial contractor whose services were terminated by uThukela due to its poor workmanship.

UTHUKELA DISTRICT AWARDS LEARNERS WITH BURSARIES
UThukela District Municipality has once again contributed towards assisting learners from previously disadvantaged backgrounds to claim their right to education through the municipalityÔÇÖs annual Bursary Programme. A total number of 51 new applicants and 24 returning learners from across the district were awarded bursaries to the tune of R 1 million during the event held at UThukela District Boardroom on Wednesday.

No matter how little or how much money a person has, spending it wisely is a good idea as it enables one to get the most bang for their buck. These were the words uttered by the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), Hon Sihle Zikalala, during the ÔÇ£Spend WiselyÔÇØ campaign held at Depot Sports Ground in Uitval. The purpose of the event was to encourage people to apply their mind when buying merchandises.

UTHUKELA DISTRICT PRAYS FOR MATRICULANTS TO DO WELL
UThukela District Municipality in partnership with the Department of Education organised a mass matric examination prayer that was held at the Indoor Sports Centre on Wednesday. The prayer was aimed at bringing matriculants closer to God as examination time is just around the corner. Schools from all three local municipalities were bussed in to attend this important sermon.

UTHUKELA HANDS OVER BICYCLES TO RURAL SCHOOLS
UThukela District Mayor Cllr AS Mazibuko accompanied by EXCO Member Cllr MV Khumalo in conjunction with Mayibuye Construction, on Monday, visited Emangweni area to handover 100 bicycles to two rural schools, Mandlakhe High and Emlilweni Primary. This initiative was done as MayibuyeÔÇÖs Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme aiming to uplift the community it conduct business with through the request by the Mayor.

The UThukela District Municipality Mayor Cllr AS Mazibuko and EXCO Member Cllr MV Khumalo accompanied by Inkosi Langalibalele Municipality Mayor Cllr Jabu Mbhele and councillors introduced the contractors to install water pipes in KwaDlamini, KwaNdaba, Bhekuzulu and Phangweni areas outside Estcourt. This was done in an attempt to tackle water scarcity in these areas which has been going on for quite some time.
